Video game-based animated series Golden Ax ordered by Comedy Central

Comedy Central has ordered Golden Ax, a new animated series based on Sega's popular video game, for ten episodes.
Produced by CBS Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television and Original Film, the voice cast of Golden Ax is led by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, Danny Pudi, Lisa Gilroy, Liam McIntyre and Carl Tart.

15232 Golden Axe

From executive producers Mike McMahon and Joe Chandler, Golden Ax is described as a hilarious and loving homage to Sega's 1989 video game series. It follows veteran fighters Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they fight once again to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder that just can't seem to stay dead. Fortunately, this time they have the inexperienced and ill-prepared Hampton Squib on their side.

Rhys voices Gilius Thunderhead, a grumpy battle dwarf with exceptionally poor hygiene and a chip on his shoulder.

Pudi is Hampton Squib, a naive, inexperienced adventurer who has dreamed of a quest all his life. He hopes his can-do attitude can compensate for his inability to do things.

Gilroy voices Tyris Flare, a fearsome warrior sorceress, deadly in battle and even deadlier with her sharp wit.

McIntyre voices Ax Battler, a barbarian warrior with a strict code of honor and a sweet golden retriever demeanor. His brawn outweighs his brain, but his heart outweighs his brawn.

Tart's Chronos 'Evil' Lait, originally from Golden Ax III, is a 100% badass humanoid panther. At least that's how Chronos describes himself. In reality, he's uncomfortably cheesy and can't read a room.

Golden Ax is produced by CBS' Eye Animation Productions, the animation arm of CBS Studios, Sony Pictures Television and Original Film.

McMahan and Chandler co-wrote the first episode and are in charge of production. Chandler serves as showrunner. Sega's Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi and Toru Nakahara also produce alongside Original Film's Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Ascher.

Titmouse is the animation studio for the series with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina serving as executive producers.
