Gods in Alabama series in development at Prime Video

Gods in Alabama series in development at Prime Video

Former series development chief Marc Resteghini is executive producing the film adaptation of author Joshilyn Jackson's novel.
First published in 2015, the book centers on a young lawyer who has promised God never to return to Alabama, but is forced to move back south to defend a high school classmate accused of a murder she knows something about.

When she returns home, she is confronted with a simmering stew of family conflict, a hometown that hates her for defending the alleged killer of a local hero, and all the ghosts of her past.

Prime Video describes the potential series, which is in development at the streamer, as a "soapy, legal thriller steeped in deep Southern charm."

Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard, the writing duo whose credits include True Lies and Bull (2016), both from CBS, created the series and will serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Resteghini will also produce the potential series, as he is still in business with the streamer under a producing deal. Resteghini, who worked at Amazon for eight years and developed series including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Patriot (2017), The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Terminal List, departed in October 2022 following a restructuring at the streamer.

Jackson is an accomplished author of The Almost Sisters, Mother May I, and A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty, among others. She retains the rights to Gods in Alabama and is credited as co-executive producer on the possible series adaptation.
