The 1923 series is currently airing on Paramount+ and has already been extended through season two. The western series follows another generation of the Dutton family on their journey to Yellowstone.
According to Variety, Mawle (pictured) will "play Captain Shipley, described as 'the captain of a British freighter, who has seen a lot during his years at sea'."
Mawle previously starred in a recurring role on the first and sixth seasons of HBO's Game of Thrones. In this, he played the role of Benjen Stark, the younger brother of Ned Stark (Sean Bean). In the seventh season, he had a guest role as Benjen.
Last year, Mawle starred as Adar, the villainous leader of the Orcs, in the first season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Earlier this month, it was announced that Mawle was leaving the series, and was replaced in the role by Sam Hazeldine. In a series of tweets, Mawle indicated that he was leaving the series by choice.
Best to cast and crew for S2, I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines X
