Dexter actress cast in second season of Paramount's western series 1923

A well-known actress from the hit series Dexter has scored a role in season two of Paramount's 1923.

Jennifer Carpenter has been cast in a recurring role in season two of 1923, the western prequel series to Yellowstone (2018), starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Production will begin later this year.



Carpenter (pictured) will play Mamie Fossett, a very capable U.S. Deputy Marshall who issues warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time.

1923 introduces a new generation of Duttons and explores the early 20th century when pandemics, historic droughts and the end of Prohibition ravaged the Mountain West and the Duttons who call it home.

The first season starred Ford, Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, Aminah Nieves, Brian Geraghty, Sebastian Roche, Jennifer Ehle, Marley Shelton and Robert Patrick.

The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and is executive produced by Yellowstone (2018) co-creator Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Ben Richardson, Michael Friedman and Keith Cox.

The first season can be streamed on Paramount+.

Carpenter recently wrapped up the thriller limited series Ballistic, in which she starred opposite Jonathan Ohye and Lihi Kornowski. The series follows a secret agent (Carpenter) who, after a mission is compromised, is forced into a psychological game of cat and mouse with her own mind as she is hunted by the program that created her.

The actress is best known for her role as Debra Morgan in the Showtime hit series Dexter, opposite Michael C. Hall. Deb, first a police officer and later a lieutenant, is the sister of the titular serial killer who moonlights as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami-Dade Metro Police Department. Carpenter reprized her role in the sequel series Dexter: New Blood which aired on Showtime in 2022.

Other roles include the NBC series The Enemy Within, opposite Morris Chestnut; the films Brawl in Cell Block 99, opposite Vince Vaughn and The Exorcism of Emily Rose opposite Laura Linney; and the CBS series Limitless, based on the film of the same name.
