Netflix released a teaser trailer during the Tudum fan event in São Paulo, Brazil (see photo below). The streamer also announced that the series will premiere in January 2024 under the title The Three-Body Problem.
The drama series is an adaptation of Chinese author Liu Cixin's science fiction book The Three-Body Problem, the story of humanity's first contact with an alien civilization.
The cast includes Jovan Adepo (The Stand (2020), Sorry For Your Loss), John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, The Hot Zone), Eiza González (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Extrapolations), Jess Hong (The Brokenwood Mysteries), Marlo Kelly (Joe vs. Carole), Alex Sharp (The Good Lord Bird), Sea Shimooka (Arrow), newcomer Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani (Inventing Anna), Benedict Wong (Marco Polo (2014), She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones, The Crown), Rosalind Chao (Better Things), Ben Schnetzer (Y: The Last Man), and Eve Ridley (Casualty).
Oscar-nominated director Derek Tsang (Better Days) is one of the directors for the series.
Benioff and Weiss serve as showrunners and executive producers. Woo co-created the series with Benioff and Weiss and is an executive producer and writer. Bernadette Caulfield (Game of Thrones, The X Files) serves as executive producer. Rian Johnson (Knives Out, Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi), Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue serve as executive producers for T-Street. Lin Qi, the late former chairman of Yoozoo Group, and Zhao Jilong, CEO of the rights holder, The Three-Body Universe, serve as executive producers. Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner's Plan B Entertainment and Jeremy Kleiner's company (Okja, Moonlight) serve as executive producers along with Rosamund Pike and Robie Uniacke for Primitive Streak.
