All American (2018) renewed for a seventh season

The CW has renewed the drama series All American (2018) for season seven, consisting of thirteen episodes, which will air in 2025.

In addition, the network announced today that it has renewed season eleven of the unscripted magic competition series Penn & Teller: Fool Us and season four of The Chosen.

The news of All American (2018) isn't surprising as the college drama was in the best position of any of The CW's remaining scripted series to continue.

All American (2018)

All American (2018), whose season six renewal was included in Nexstar's deal to acquire The CW, is a top ratings contender and is also the most economically viable to produce for the studio, Warner Bros. TV, because the licensing fee, which is likely over $1 million per episode, is the highest of all three "old CW" dramas that had to be renewed this year.

Of the other two, Walker was recently cancelled and the chances for All American: Homecoming don't look good, but no formal decision will be made until the spinoff begins its third season in July.

It is unclear whether the renewal of season seven of All American (2018) came with a rumored budget reduction. The series is expected to undergo casting changes, which would reduce above-the-line costs if some - but not all - of the current cast members were to leave and new faces join.

All American (2018) continues to tell a creatively complete story after seven seasons by wrapping up the story of its main character, Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), who has just won the championship and is still on his way to competing in the NFL after his junior year in college.

The two additional episodes, which The CW ordered in April to expand season six from thirteen to fifteen episodes, will help close the current chapter of All American (2018) and set up the next one. The order size for season seven, thirteen episodes, is in line with what The CW's new leadership is aiming for for their scripted series.

All American (2018) is also unique in that it is the last remaining CW series from the rich Netflix deal the streamer made with WBTV and CBS Studios, so the studio can absorb a financial hit from the CW to some extent and still benefit from the fact that the series will be broadcast for more seasons.

All American (2018) has a slightly different financial model, given its deal with Netflix. “That makes it a little more interesting for everybody,” the CW Entertainment President Brad Schwartz told Deadline last month.

The sixth season finale of All American (2018) airs on Monday, July 15. The series, which just reached the 100-episode milestone, is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios, with executive producers Nkechi Okoro Carroll, who serves as showrunner, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jameal Turner, Mike Herro and David Strauss.

“A strong Fall is going to lead into an even stronger 2025 on The CW as new seasons of All American (2018), Penn & Teller: Fool Us and The Chosen join NASCAR Xfinity Series, WWE NXT, ACC football & basketball, Pac-12 football, Wild Cards, Superman & Lois, The Librarians, Inside the NFL, Sullivan’s Crossing and much more,” said Schwartz. “Through six seasons, All American remains a top-performer for The CW as the network’s most-watched series across all linear and digital platforms.”
