Comedy series American Auto canceled by NBC

This comedy has run out of gas. NBC canceled American Auto, so there won't be a third season.

American Auto stars Ana Gasteyer, Harriet Dyer, Jon Barinholtz, Humphrey Ker, Michael B. Washington, Tye White and X Mayo.

The story is set in Detroit and Payne Motors executives are at a crossroads: adapt to the changing times or be sent to the scrap heap. The new CEO, Katherine Hastings (Gasteyer), shakes things up. Her leadership, experience and intelligence are only partially offset by her complete lack of knowledge about cars.

The company also includes Sadie (Dyer), the Type-A Head of Communications, Dori (X Mayo), the CEO's sweet assistant, Cyrus (Washinton), the Chief Producer Designer, Elliot (Ker), the Chief Sales Officer, Wesley (Barinholtz), the direct descendant of the company's founder and Jack (White), an assembly line worker. From the headquarters to the factory floor, the Payne Motors crew is making the rounds.

The second season of American Auto, which airs on Tuesday evenings, averaged 0.28 in the 18-49 demographic and 1.95 million viewers. Compared to season 1, that's a 25% drop in the demo and a 10% drop in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback until 3am). It was one of the worst-watched series of the season. In the live+7 days ratings, the episodes only got 20% more viewers.

Justin Spitzer created American Auto. News of the cancellation comes a week after NBC serialized St. Denis Medical. Spitzer and Eric Ledgin created the new comedy starring Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs (2013)), David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper and Kahyun Kim.
