The television gods have turned against American Gods, at least for now

No fourth season for American Gods. There could be a television film.

The series adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel with Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane in the lead will not return for a fourth season at Starz. This was confirmed by the network last Monday.

The news about the premature ending of the series didn't come entirely unexpected. It came shortly after the finale of the third season, which aired on the 21st of March. “Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman’s ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country,” a network spokesperson told Deadline today.

On the typical small screen manner, discussions have been going on to properly conclude the series as a limited series or a television film. However, based on the fact that the ratings declined by 50% each season, the chances of a proper conclusion are slim.

American Gods has been through quite a lot of drama, both in front of and behind the camera. Back in 2017, the cast consisted of Whittle, McShane, Orlando Jones, Emily Browning, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Crispin Glover, Kahyun Kim, Omid Abtahi, Mousa Kraish, Gillian Anderson and Pablo Schreiber.
