Actress leaves HBO's And Just Like That… ahead of third season return

A fan-favourite character is leaving And Just Like That… before its third season returns in 2025.

Karen Pittman, who played Nya Wallace in the first two seasons of the Sex and the City sequel, will not return in the upcoming third season of the hit HBO Max series.



Pittman (pictured) was already a regular on Apple TV+'s The Morning Show when she was cast in And Just Like That…, originally as a recurring character in season one; she became a regular character in season two. Earlier this month, she also landed a leading role in Forever, Netflix's upcoming drama series that reimagines Mara Brock Akil's Judy Blume novel.

This placed Pittman in the middle of a scheduling problem with three high-profile series on three major streamers filming new seasons this year within similar time frames.

According to sources, Pittman was slated to star in season three of And Just Like That… and Nya was written into the scripts. But after exhausting all options to make the schedule work, that turned out to be impossible.

Sources say production on And Just Like That… season three will begin in May.

“It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That…,” a spokesperson for Max said in a statement to Deadline. “As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others. Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible.

Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of season 3 of And Just Like That… Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors.”

Pittman was brought in as one of the new women who were friends with the three core women Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) - alongside Nicole Ari Parker and Sarita Choudhury. Nya is unconditionally herself and anyone who doesn't like her, too bad. She is a professional, intelligent and brave woman who was also a loyal friend.

And after her divorce, things really started to heat up for her with a new man in her life, Chef Toussaint (Gary Jourdan), who kept the fire burning both professionally and personally. Nya has also been Miranda's rock since the series premiere, her cheerleader and confidante who not only sheltered her during her breakup and later divorce from Steve (David Eigenberg), but also during her new journey of self-discovery. Miranda did the same when Nya was going through a tough time following her divorce from Andre (LeRoy McClain).

Maybe one day Nya can appear again in a guest role and let her fans know what she's been up to. But in the meantime, hopefully the ladies will toast her with a Cosmopolitan in season three.

Another And Just Like That… cast member, Sara Ramirez, will also not return for season three after the storyline of their character, Che Diaz, concluded at the end of last season.
