Anoniem - Season 1

A good family man goes into battle with a drug family and takes on the role of superhero Anoniem (Anonymous).
History teacher Jurre Jansen (Jeroen Spitzenberger, Oogappels), his wife Sarah (Anniek Pheifer, Westenwind), who earns her living as a public prosecutor, and their children Ella (Mies van Rooijen, Penoza) and Boet (Sil van der Zwan) together form a family. With two teenagers in the house, the couple has already entered the state of creatures of habit. Their lives seem to be getting a bit boring and both Jurre and Sarah need an adrenaline boost in their lives.

Whether the boost they get in Anoniem is enough to find happiness together again, is of course another question. While Sarah throws herself into work and has an affair with a colleague, Jurre catches his son under the influence. He discovers that the school where he teaches is dealing. Then Jurre has an unexpected meeting during an evening walk where he stands up for a lady who is being assaulted. When the lady later calls her anonymous rescuer a hero on social media, Jurre decides to take matters into her own hands and tackle the drug problem at the school itself.

Disguised, he sets out and delivers the dealers a beating they will never forget. What Jurre does not realize, however, is that the dealers he is tackling work for a large drug family and that his lovely wife Sarah is doing everything she can to get the family heads of this mafia clan in jail. Slowly but surely, the entire Jansen family becomes entangled in an almost impenetrable web of crime that regularly puts themselves and those around them in mortal danger. Jurre's actions are also followed and eventually there will be a confrontation between the mafia family and the Jansen family and their friends.

In recent years we can't really complain when it comes to Dutch or Flemish series. There are some fixed values that receive the necessary attention every year. It is therefore not always easy for new series to put themselves on the map. Certainly not if they are programmed at the time of one of those celebrities. I myself have no idea of viewing figures in the Netherlands, but from what I could gather from my own social circles, Anoniem appears to have found the necessary support. And rightly so, because Anoniem is by far one of the best Dutch series of the past ten years.

The series has everything a good thriller needs. Tension, intrigue, romance, fights and much more make for a pleasant viewing piece with a high entertainment value. Add to that very well thought-out film music and top actors who give shape to the characters and you can be quite satisfied as the creator of such a series. Whether Jurre and his family will die an anonymous death remains a question mark for the time being. Judging by the end of the first season, a return of the anonymous hero is certainly possible.
