No plans for a third season of Barbaren

One of the series' actors has apparently confirmed that there will not be a third season of Barbaren.

It's been two years since Barbaren season two (stylized as Barbaren II) was released on Netflix. However, after recent omissions and comments from involved parties in 2023 and 2024, it appears there will not be a third season.

Barbaren

The series, starring Laurence Rupp, Jeanne Goursaud and David Schütter, follows the adventures of three people intertwined during the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD, when Germanic warriors desperately tried to stop the spread of the Roman Empire. hold.

Season 1 of the series was released worldwide on Netflix on October 23, 2020, and the second season was released two years later on October 21, 2022.

After the release of Barbaren season two, the series spent a total of three weeks in the global Netflix top 10, with 45.20 million hours watched. That period also saw the first season return to the top 10 for two weeks, although we don't have comparable viewership figures for season 1.

In the recent Netflix Engagement Report, we can see that between January and June 2023, Barbaren season 1 ranked at number 1482 and Barbaren season two ranked at number 1443.

However, there is some data from FlixPatrol that suggests the second season dropped much faster in the daily top 10s. Even in Germany, the series had disappeared from the daily top 10 after twelve days. Netflix often needs to see a series in its home country for several weeks to justify renewal.

Last year, Guamont and Netflix were contacted about the future of the series. The first told us that the series had not been officially canceled, but that production had "ended." A Netflix representative also confirmed that they had not yet picked up the series for a third season at that time.

Apparently nothing has changed since then. In recent weeks, Netflix Germany revealed its full list of upcoming titles, and Barbaren was noticeably absent. Netflix Germany has several returning titles: How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) season four, Kleo season two and Die Kaiserin season two.

Now, one of the series' leads recently confirmed that there are no plans for a third season either. In response to a question on Instagram, Laurence Rupp (Arminius) suggested that our reporting so far is still accurate. When asked about a third season, the actor replied: "Unfortunately, there won't be a third season anytime soon...".

The "soon" in the answer seems to leave the door open for a later season, but given the length of time it seems very unlikely. Rupp has since collaborated with Netflix on the recently released 2024 film The Heartbreak Agency and is attached to multiple other upcoming projects.
