Possible second season of Beef has actors in mind

Beef is eyeing a second season and already has certain new actors in its sights.
As Beef creator and executive producer Lee Sung Jin accepted yet another limited series award at the Spirit Awards on Sunday, he said he underestimated the pleasure of the dopamine that comes with winning and will miss it.

But maybe that's not necessary. The Dish has learned that he's circling the cast for a second season of the Netflix and A24 series, and he has some badass actors in mind.

14893 Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway

We have heard that this time the storyline will revolve around two feuding couples. Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny (photo, left) are asked to play one of the couples. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway (pictured, right) are the other names we've heard. The latter did well in the Ed Zwick-directed Love & Other Drugs.

Melton is best known for the CW series Riverdale, in which he appeared as Reggie Mantle from the second season. Last year, he starred in Todd Haynes' drama May December opposite Julianne Moore, for which Melton was nominated for a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award.

Spaeny starred in FX's limited series Devs on Hulu and HBO's Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet. Last year she made her breakthrough as Priscilla Presley in the film Priscilla, based on the novel Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley.

Granted, it's still early and no deals have been made yet, but sources understand that a limited number of screenplays for the season have just been turned in or are about to be turned in and that Netflix and A24 are ready to release the second season in late summer or put into production in the fall. All this was making the rounds at the awards shows last weekend - Beef won at both the Spirits and Producers Guild Awards.

Beef has picked up awards across the board, including eight Primetime Emmys, one for Outstanding Limited Series or Anthology Series, and trophies for Ali Wong and Steven Yuen, and Jin for writing and directing. It has also scored many other accolades this awards season, including Golden Globes. To be continued.

Below you can watch the trailer for the first season of Beef.
