Breaking Bad - Season 5B

Walter White (Bryan Cranston, Malcolm in the Middle), a sympathetic husband and chemistry teacher, has developed an alter ego named Heisenberg over the last couple of years. The relentless struggle for more power, respect and, above all, money has taken multiple lives in the process . At the end of the first half of the fifth season, it became clear that the family man could dispatch himself partly from Heisenberg. Still, a little discovery in a private room reopened the heist on Heisenberg.

The fifth season of this Emmy-award winning series aired with eight episodes last year. At the time, I thought that these episodes were all separate little stories. This year, the last eight episodes are filled with action. There are no bits and pieces, but a constant barrage continues with various well-known characters going through the darkest moments of their lives .

Hank (Dean Norris, 'Under the Dome') struggles with a discovery that could cost him his job but could also bring him final vengeance and good closure. Driven by pure envy he seeks retribution. Jesse (Aaron Paul, 'Last house on the Left') is facing a crisis of conscience and guilt. Emotionally, he is experiencing a fairly dark period. Skyler (Anna Gunn, 'Deadwood') has to cope with the fact that she's struggling to decide who she is actually supporting, as well as trying to protect her children. These personal barriers play an increasingly important role as Walter slowly loses his life to Heisenberg.

In an interview from several years ago, Vince Gilligan, the director of the series, said that he wanted to turn a Mr. Chips into a Scarface. This was accomplished at the end of the first half of this season. In my opinion, the second half is more about the internal struggle between Mr. Chips and Scarface. An interesting and excellently executed battle. Each actor gets the chance to show a completely different side of the character they're portraying.

As the story progresses, the atmosphere becomes darker and grimmer. The humor from the previous seasons is still there but the darker edge of this story's last chapters will provide you with fewer laughs and even brings a couple of tears along near the ending. Of course, there will be amazing and bizarre action scenes, the bright dialogues, and suspense that will push you to the edge of your seat, but as the story continues, you know that it's heading towards the inevitable ending.

Breaking Bad has its final farewell after these last eight episodes. The story has a closed ending that does not and cannot allow a sequel and most of our questions are answered. When the final credits roll down the screen, you realize that it's over. You know that you have been watching a brilliant show all along. Although there is still some slight frustration in the back of your mind saying that all seasons and episodes should've been as great as these last ones.
