In a new shockwave for the One Chicago franchise, it has been announced that Toya Turner is leaving Chicago P.D. and will not return as Kiana Cook in season thirteen. The reason for Toya Turner's departure after just one season has not been disclosed. Turner said in a statement that she was grateful for her time on the series: "I am grateful for the time I had to bring Kiana to life. Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me so warmly."
The series is now looking for a new female regular cast member to replace Turner (pictured). The new role involves an ATF agent with a military background who is described as a "loose cannon."
Turner only joined the cast last summer, having debuted early in season 12. Her character, Kiana Cook, was a former tactical officer who was demoted to patrol duty by her supervisor after she called out his lack of commitment. Kiana came to the attention of the Intelligence team after she helped track down the killer of their newest colleague, Detective Emily Martel. She was later recruited by Voight (Jason Beghe), in part after she helped on a case involving teenage girls who had murdered their abusers.
Turner joined Chicago PD after the departure of Tracy Spiridakos, who retired as Detective Hailey Upton in the season eleven finale after eight seasons. Jesse Lee Soffer (Jay Halstead) had also left earlier.
Chicago PD is not the only one facing cast changes; Chicago Fire will not see Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett return for season fourteen.
Before her role in Chicago PD, Turner had already appeared in both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, but as different characters. She also starred in the Netflix series Warrior Nun, NBC’s New Amsterdam (2018), Netflix series Easy, and in the Fox series The Mick and Empire.
