Prime Video's Citadel has already been renewed with a second season

Citadel arrives on Prime Video next month, but viewers already know that the new series is staying for now. Prime Video has given the spy drama an early season two renewal.
Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico) star as Citadel agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh. The story follows the pair as they try to take down an evil organization that brought down their spy agency eight years earlier.

This early renewal comes just days after a clip for the new series was shown at the annual South by Southwest festival in Texas. However, the series has had some problems during production. The Hollywood Reporter reported the following:

"The budget for Citadel has climbed to more than $200 million for filming after half of the series' creative team left due to creative differences. The series is currently on track to become the second most expensive series ever, after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Among the changes, Citadel has parted ways with showrunner Josh Appelbaum and director Brian Kirk, and the Russos have hired David Weil, creator of Amazon's recently concluded drama Hunters, to take over the series, provide a more grounded approach and oversee on $75 million in reshoots from a budget that was already budgeted at $160 million.

Sources say Weil will stay on as showrunner for season two, while the Russos are expected to direct several episodes."

The six-episode first season will be released on Friday, April 28.
