It may be one of the most daring plans in television history. Prime Video launched Citadel in 2023 with ambitious franchise goals in mind and wasted no time in announcing that a spinoff, Citadel: Diana, was already on the way.
Unfortunately for Prime Video and the entire team behind the series, Citadel seemed too big to fail, but it eventually did. The viewing figures fell and the reviews were equally mediocre, causing the very expensive series to fall into the doldrums. Citadel season two was preemptively renewed before the first results of the debut season were known, but little has come of it since. Citadel: Diana has also been a long time coming, but Prime Video has been surprisingly quiet about their Italian expansion into the world of Citadel.
Unlike other major Originals on Prime Video, there was little news about Citadel: Diana. Now Prime Video has finally put the six-episode spinoff on the schedule.
After more than a year of relative silence about the Italian spin-off, the latest news confirms the premiere date for Citadel: Diana. The semi-futuristic action series now debuts on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, October 10.
Along with the premiere date, a new teaser trailer for Citadel: Diana has also been revealed, shedding more light on the series' story. The teaser trailer follows the eponymous character as she infiltrates Manticore to bring down the group from within. Naturally, a series of explosive battles take place as she tries to avenge the fall of Citadel.
Because so little is known about the series itself, little is also known about the cast of Citadel: Diana. The only character known so far is the titular heroine herself, who is played by Italian actress Matilda De Angelis. An extensive list of actors has been announced for the cast, although nothing is known about their roles yet. They are best known for their work in European productions in their own country. More details are expected to come soon and it is unknown if Citadel characters will appear in the spin-off.
Dutch actress Thekla Reuten also plays a role in the series, as do Lorenzo Cervasio, Maurizio Lombardi, Julia Piaton, Bernhard Schütz and Filippo Nigro.
Although the spin-off was shrouded in mystery for a long time, Prime Video's second teaser was also accompanied by a plot synopsis. Set in 2030 (eight years after the fall of Citadel), Diana is an undercover Citadel agent trapped behind enemy lines as a mole within the Manticore organization. To escape, Diana must form an alliance with Manticore's heir, who hopes to end the organization's hold on Europe for good. More details are likely to come soon, but the spin-off is already an exciting continuation of the plot of its predecessor.
