City on Fire canceled after one season by Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has chosen not to make a second season of the crime series City on Fire.
The news about City on Fire comes a month and a half after the first season ran eight episodes on the streamer. Not surprisingly, the adaptation of the novel of the same name didn't get much buzz like other recent Apple TV+ additions like Silo and Hijack.

While City on Fire was commissioned and marketed as a drama series and not a limited series, and seeds were planted for a second season in the finale, viewers won't be let down as season one pretty much covered the entirety of the book.

City on Fire

In City on Fire, from executive producers and showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, a suburban teen named Charlie (Wyatt Oleff) must unravel the mystery of his girlfriend's (Chase Sui Wonders) murder after she was shot in Central Park on the Fourth of July in 2003.

As the crime against Samantha (Wonders) is investigated, she is revealed to be the crucial link between a series of mysterious city fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the pressure of the many secrets they keep.

The series also stars Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Xavier Clyde, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi, Kathleen Munroe and John Cameron Mitchell.

City on Fire is produced by Apple Studios for Apple TV+. Schwartz and Savage wrote all eight episodes and served as showrunners and executive producers under Fake Empire. Jesse Peretz directed four episodes and served as an executive producer. Lis Rowinski of Fake Empire served as co-executive producer.
