Amazon's Alex Cross series gets early renewal for second season

Amazon's Alex Cross series gets early renewal for second season

In the run-up to the premiere of Cross, Prime Video is already preparing a second season.
Cross is a thriller from Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television about Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge), a detective and forensic psychologist who has a unique ability to delve into the psyches of murderers and their victims in order to identify and ultimately capture the killers.

15285 Cross castleden

The drama is based on the bestseller Alex Cross by James Patterson. Matthew Lillard (pictured, left), Jeanine Mason (pictured, center) and Wes Chatham (pictured, right) are set to star opposite Hodge in season two of the series, which is created, produced and filmed by Ben Watkins.

Prime Video declined comment, but all three newly cast actors are believed to have one-year contracts.

Lillard reportedly plays Lance, a ruthless, self-made business magnate. Mason will play Rebecca, a brilliant, ambitious and vengeful judge. Chatham plays Donnie, a tough military veteran turned farmer with far-right political views and a sensitive heart, we hear.

The first season, whose premiere date has yet to be announced, also stars Ryan Eggold, Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Johnny Ray Gill, Eloise Mumford and Siobhan Murphy.

This is a reunion for Hand of God creator Watkins and Chatham, who guest-starred in the Prime Video series. Chatham also starred in the sci-fi drama The Expanse, which started on Syfy before moving to Prime Video for its final three seasons. Chatham recently played Captain Enoch in Disney+'s Ahsoka.

Cross also expands Mason's relationship with Prime Video, where she had a recurring role on the comedy series Upload. Mason was the winner of season five of So You Think You Can Dance and starred in Roswell, New Mexico on the CW as Dr. Grace Bello on ABC's Grey's Anatomy.

Lillard is known for his roles in the Scooby-Doo and Scream franchises and was recently seen in the supernatural horror film Five Nights at Freddy's. In series, he had a regular role on NBC's Good Girls. He also played roles in Prime Video's Bosch and FX series The Bridge (2013), the American version of the Danish-Swedish series Bron/Broen, among others.
