Dark Winds stars Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten. Season three, set to begin in 2025, picks up six months after the events of season two and follows Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Gordon) as they investigate the disappearance of two boys, with only an abandoned bicycle and a bloodied plot of land in their wake.
Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito (Matten) tries to settle into her new life 500 miles from home with the Border Patrol, but stumbles upon a human and drug smuggling conspiracy with far-reaching consequences.
Elfman (pictured left) will play BI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, while Greenwood (pictured right) will star as Tom Spenser. AMC made the announcement last week during the network's Upfront presentation, along with the news that production on season three has begun in New Mexico.
Also includes Raoul Max Trujillo as Budge, Tonantzin Carmelo as Border Patrol Agent Eleanda Garza, Alex Meraz as Border Patrol Agent Ivan Muños, Terry Serpico as Border Patrol Senior Chief Ed Henry, Derek Hinkey as Shorty Bowlegs, Phil Burke as Michael Halsey and Christopher Heyerdahl as Dr. Reynolds will play a role in the third season.
Deanna Allison also returns in season three as Emma Leaphorn and guest star A. Martinez joins as acting Chief Gordo Sena of the Scarborough Police Department.
Dark Winds is based on the series by Tony Hillerman and created by Graham Roland. John Wirth is the showrunner. The series is produced by Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis and Anne Hillerman.
Elfman is known for her role as June Dorie in AMC's Fear The Walking Dead. She recently guest-starred on ABC's Will Trent.
Greenwood appeared last year as Roderick Usher in Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher. He had other series roles in the HBO limited series I Know This Much Is True, Fox's The Resident, and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story from FX.
