Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Patrick Dempsey and Sarah Michelle Gellar have also been added to the cast.
SkyShowtime has confirmed that the new original drama series Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated prequel to the Emmy-nominated series Dexter, will debut on the platform. The brand new ten-part thriller series follows America's favorite serial killer... in training. The series takes place fifteen years before viewers were first introduced to Dexter in the popular Showtime series Dexter of the same name.
The cast of the series Dexter: Original Sin (former title Dexter: Origins) is also known. Patrick Gibson stars as Dexter Morgan. Golden Globe winner Christian Slater plays Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father and homicide detective, and Molly Brown plays Dexter's younger sister, Debra Morgan.
Patrick Dempsey will be seen in a regular role as Aaron Spencer, homicide chief at the Miami Metro Police Department, who has had a good relationship with Harry Morgan (Slater) for decades. Sarah Michelle Gellar joins the cast in a special guest role as Tanya Martin, the CSI chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter Morgan's new boss. Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and executive producer.
Dexter: Original Sin is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Gibson) as a student who slowly develops into a ruthless serial killer. When he can no longer deny his bloodthirsty impulses, Dexter must learn to control his inner darkness.
On the advice of his adoptive father, Harry (Slater), Dexter agrees to kill only people who deserve to be eliminated from society, and to do so without getting caught. This proves to be quite a challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensic internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.
Slater won Golden Globe and Critics' Choice Awards and was nominated several times for his role in Mr. Robot from USA Network. He also appeared in Dr. Peacock's Death, for which he received a Critics' Choice nomination, and Bravo/USA Network's Dirty John. Slater currently stars in Jerry Seinfeld's directorial debut Unfrosted and Roku's The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Gibson recently appeared in Netflix's Shadow and Bone television series. He also starred in The OA, also from Netflix, Before We Die (UK) from Channel 4, and the films Good Girl Jane and Property of the State, for which he won the Irish Film and Television Award for Rising Star in 2017.
Brown previously appeared in CBS/Paramount+'s Evil, Showtime's Billions and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel from Prime Video, and films like Senior Year and The Good House. She will soon star in the independent film Mooch.
James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson are also part of the regular cast, as members of the Miami Metro Police Department. Martinez plays Angel Batista, an up-and-coming homicide detective who always follows his heart. Milian plays Maria LaGuerta, Miami Metro's first female homicide detective. Shimizu plays Vince Masuka, a forensic analyst who is eager to share his expertise while relishing the chance to boss his new intern, Dexter Morgan around. Finally, Wilson plays Bobby Watt, Harry's longtime partner and confidante.
The original series Dexter, which aired eight seasons, premiered in 2006. Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall starred as Dexter Morgan, an inner-struggle blood spatter investigator at the Miami Metro Police Department who leads a double life as a serial killer.
The series became one of the most awarded American television series, receiving multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Drama as well as a prestigious Peabody Award in 2008. The series was also twice named one of AFI's top 10 television series. In 2013, Dexter earned a place on the Writer's Guild of America's list of the 101 Best Written Television Series. All seasons of Dexter are now available to stream on SkyShowtime.
