Dexter: Original Sin reveals premiere date and brings '90s vibes in teaser trailer

“I’m a killer but I wasn’t born this way; I was made,” TV’s original Dexter, Michael C. Hall, says in a voiceover in the clip. Hall will narrate the inner monologue inside the serial killer-in-training’s head in the prequel.
Dexter: Original Sin will premiere on December 13, 2024 via streaming and on-demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers both domestically and internationally. The linear broadcast will follow two days later. Watch the official teaser trailer below.

The video really sets the tone for Dexter's origin story with all the signature '90s elements, from the music to the fashion, the furniture, and even the glorious mustache that Patrick Dempsey sports. Everything old is new again, so don't be surprised if this era continues to influence fashion trends. But seriously, no one needs those brown sofas anymore. They were way too ticklish.

The 10-part original drama series, helmed by Clyde Phillips, is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he evolves from college student to vengeful serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn how to control his inner darkness. Under the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code that helps him find and kill people who need to be removed from society without attracting the attention of the police. This is a special challenge for young Dexter, as he begins a forensic internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.

Dexter: Original Sin also stars Dempsey as Captain Aaron Spencer, Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, and special guest Sarah Michelle Gellar as Tanya Martin. Amanda Brooks will return as the ex-wife of Captain Aaron Spencer, with whom she shares custody of their son Nicky.

The series is executive produced by Clyde Phillips and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Other executive producers include Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, and the series is produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis. Michael Lehmann is executive producer/director. Distribution of the series outside the Paramount+ markets will be handled by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
