Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter in the new series Resurrection and Original Sin

Showtime's Dexter returned to San Diego Comic-Con with a very special guest in tow: Michael C. Hall.
It's not Dexter Con without Dexter, and this evening there were two in attendance: Hall and Patrick Gibson. The latter plays the younger version of the character in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. Hall is the narrator of the series set in the '90s, or the voice in Dexter. The series premieres in December.

Daarnaast zal Hall de hoofdrol spelen in Dexter: Resurrection, een nieuwe serie die zich afspeelt in het heden en een vervolg is op Dexter: New Blood uit 2021. De serie gaat in de zomer van 2025 van start.

“It’s pretty heady,” said Hall, after receiving a standing ovation in Ballroom 20. He’s also an EP on both series. “I’m having flashbacks of the first time I came to Comic-Con. We were in this hall. That was … 75 years ago? It’s amazing to still be alive. I cannot wait to watch this show. To a certain degree, I have a sense of what is coming. I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back to have those sort of imaginative blanks filled in this technicolor show … It’s amazing.”

Set in 1991 Miami, the ten-part series Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson), a college student who refines his skills as an assassin with the help and support of his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater). In his father he finds comfort and understanding, especially when his bloodthirsty urges grow and can no longer be ignored.

As his only confidante, Harry teaches Dexter a code that will help him find and kill people who deserve to die. This presents a special challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensic internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.

Friday's Comic-Con panel was moderated by Sarah Michelle Geller, who also stars in the prequel series. Joining her on stage were Slater, Gibson and executive producers Scott Reynolds and showrunner Clyde Phillips.

Incredibly, Hall only just met Gibson Friday in San Diego, though the two had previously been on Zoom together. “We are almost the exact same height,” quipped Hall. “He still has time to grow.”

Phillips had this to promise about the prequel: “Expect what you have seen before but better. To see these characters as their younger selves is just amazing and the storytelling, I promise you, will be surprising and astonishing and satisfying.”

“It’s a wide-open path,” added Reynolds about the prequel. “Being able to tell a story about a kid who thinks he’s worthless and a dad who says he’s not is a beautiful thing.”

The Dexter: New Blood sequel series Dexter: Resurrection, which sees Hall return as the titular killer, begins production in January. No additional information was provided during the panel.

In the finale of Dexter: New Blood, Dexter was murdered by his adult son Harrison (Jack Alcott) – or was he? A title like Resurrection could support fan speculation after the finale that Dexter survived. Or, if not, Dexter could probably come back as a mental manifestation - or Dark Passenger - for Harrison, just as Dexter's father Harry (James Remar) was never far from him.

If he's still alive, would Dexter and Harrison pair up? While rewatching the original series, you were reminded that Dexter likes to work alone. So Harrison as his murder partner a la Lumen or Miguel Prada is probably a no-go. However, this is his son, so... that will have to wait and see.

Currently in production in Miami and Los Angeles, Dexter: Original Sin also stars James Martinez, Christina Milian, Reno Wilson, Alex Shimizu and Patrick Dempsey.

Recently the addition of Joe Pantoliano as Mad Dog, Brittany Allen as Laura Moser, Dexter's biological mother, Randy Gonzalez as Santos Jimenez, Aaron Jennings as Clark Sanders, Raquel Justice as Sofia, Jasper Lewis as Doris Morgan, Dexter's adoptive mother and wife of Harry , Carlo Mendez as Hector Estrada, Isaac Gonzalez Rossi as Gio and Roberto Sanchez as Tony Ferrer confirmed.

Dexter premiered in the fall of 2006 and ran for eight seasons. It finished as the #1 Showtime Original. When Dexter: New Blood premiered in 2021, the limited series, set ten years after the original, became the network's most-watched and most-streamed series ever.
