Fox's breakthrough hit Doc, starring Molly Parker, is getting a major new actress in Felicity Huffman for season two.Felicity Huffman, best known for her award-winning role as Lynette Scavo on Desperate Housewives, is returning to the television screen in a series regular role in the second season of the Fox medical drama Doc. The series, starring Molly Parker, was a hit in its first season and is now getting a prominent addition to the cast with the addition of Huffman.
Felicity Huffman
Based on the Italian hit series Doc - Nelle tue mani, Doc follows Dr. Amy Larsen (Parker), a brilliant physician who loses eight years of her memory after a serious car accident. Her return to Westside Hospital is both professionally and personally challenging: she loses her position as head of department, must start over as an intern, and must confront her past—including broken relationships, unresolved traumas, and the person she has become in the intervening years.
In season two, Amy not only faces medical dilemmas, but also the arrival of Dr. Joan Ridley, played by Felicity Huffman. Ridley is a respected physician in internal medicine and surgery, known for her unflappable calm, sharp mind, and tough edge. She is a woman of character: she drinks whiskey, smokes occasionally, and dines on steak alone. Her charismatic looks and wicked sense of humor mask an undeniable ambition – and a secret that puts her true motives on edge.
Ridley and Amy’s relationship is a fraught and complex one: Ridley was once Amy’s medical mentor and professor, and Amy her most promising student. Their mutual respect is great, but their collaboration is not resumed without tension, especially now that Ridley has been hired as the new chief of internal medicine, replacing Dr. Richard Miller (played by Scott Wolf). Her presence on the ward has direct consequences for Amy’s professional and personal development – and the revelation of her hidden motivations promises to bring many twists and turns in the season.
In addition to Huffman, Parker and Omar Metwally (Michael), cast members Jon Ecker, Amirah Vann and Anya Banerjee also return. Patrick R. Walker and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, who played recurring roles in the first season, have been promoted to series regulars in season two.
For Huffman, Doc is only her third series regular role, following Sports Night and Desperate Housewives, for which she won an Emmy Award. After a much-discussed hiatus, this role marks a clear step back from prominent television projects. The actress is a five-time Emmy nominee and received an Oscar nomination for her leading role in the feature film Transamerica. She recently guest-starred on Paramount+’s Criminal Minds: Evolution and Fox’s Accused (US).
The second season of Doc is expected to air on Fox this fall, promising new medical and emotional challenges—and the fresh energy of a strong new co-star in Huffman.
