Dune: Prophecy - Season 1 (dvd)

Dune: Prophecy is based on one of the books from the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert.
Frank Herbert, with his Dune books, was one of the pioneers of a small group of authors who helped the fantasy genre reach new heights. Just like in many genres, the fantasy world also has numerous subgenres. Herbert is perhaps best classified as a futuristic fantasy, a science fiction genre focused primarily on the possible future of humanity.

The universe Herbert developed spawned several films, and in recent years, we've also seen a Dune comic series. Herbert died in 1986, after which his son Brian continued the Dune world. Dune: Prophecy is based on one of the many Dune books Brian wrote after his father's death. One of those book series consists of the three Great Schools of Dune books. The first book, Sisterhood of Dune, formed the basis for the first season of the series.

Overall, Dune: Prophecy is a fun series in its genre. However, viewers unfamiliar with the world of Dune will occasionally notice gaps due to the lack of background information covered in the writings or films of the past. This might be annoying for some, but it's also understandable. In a series that depicts a different era of a particular fantasy world, you can hardly spend half a season explaining certain situations that were covered in the past. It's like watching a series where you missed a year, and when you watch a later season, you notice that things from the season you missed are brought up.

What I personally find important when releasing a series on DVD are the extras. A series DVD is usually bought by fans who want to rewatch one of their favorites. For them, these extras are usually an incentive to purchase the DVD box set.
This box set, too, has a few extras in store besides the six episodes. Spread over an hour and a half of footage, you get a behind-the-scenes look through the eyes of the technical team. You also get a five-part making-of, which gives this DVD release an extra point.

About the writer, Karzal

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
