Production of third season of Euphoria is delayed

Production of third season of Euphoria is delayed

As creator Sam Levinson is still working on scripts for the upcoming third season of HBO's Euphoria, shooting plans have been temporarily postponed.
The cast has been given permission to take on other acting jobs in the meantime.

Asked about taking time off after the South by Southwest premiere of her new horror movie, Immaculate, earlier this month, Sweeney said, “I go into Euphoria.”

According to sources, there was no set start date for production on season three, but filming would begin in a few months.

When asked about her time off after the South by Southwest premiere of her new horror film, Immaculate, earlier this month, Sydney Sweeney said, "I'm going to move on to Euphoria."

The critically acclaimed drama, whose second season aired more than two years ago, saw the cast's careers explode.

There are several movie stars, Zendaya, Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo, who has a recurring role and just received an Oscar nomination. Storm Reid won an Emmy earlier this year for The Last of Us. They are all in high demand, which is why HBO has decided that they can do other work during the production delay because the series' regular actors are primarily attached to Euphoria.

According to sources, there has also been talk about the possibility of making a movie instead of a third season, but the focus has shifted back to producing a new season.

Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, said in November that season three of Euphoria was scheduled to launch in 2025. That remains the goal.

In an interview with Elle in August, Levinson described season three as a "film noir" and shared that Zendaya's character, a recovering addict, would "explore what it means to be a principled individual in a corrupt world."

Domingo recently gave a glimpse into next season while speaking about the delay: “Sam is a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important,” he told GQ in an interview. “He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”

Between seasons two and three, the Euphoria family lost star Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.

Euphoria is set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, where people search for hope while balancing the tensions of love, loss and addiction. The series is based on the Israeli series of the same name by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin.

The series won nine Emmy Awards in its first two seasons, including two for Zendaya, making her the youngest two-time Lead Actress In a Drama Series Emmy winner, and one for Domingo.
