CBS is renewing Fire Country for a third season

CBS has renewed the popular Friday night drama Fire Country for a third season.
The series, from creators and executive producers Tony Phelan, Joan Rater and Max Thieriot, follows Bode Donovan (Thieriot), a young convict who seeks redemption and a shorter prison sentence by participating in a firefighting program in Northern California. In the program, inmates work with elite firefighters to extinguish unpredictable wildfires in the region.

When Bode is assigned to the program in his rural hometown - where he was once a golden, all-American son - until his troubles begin when he burns everything in his life down, he is now looking for the chance to change his destiny.

Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway and Jules Latimer also star.

Fire Country is averaging 9.21 million viewers in live 7-day multiplatform viewership, up 7% from last year, the network shares, while touting the series as a top 6 in streaming on Paramount+. Fire Country, which currently airs on Friday nights, is averaging 7.76 million linear viewers this season (Nielsen, Live+7).

The series is such a success for the network that the universe can be expanded. As announced in January, Morena Baccarin will appear in an episode of Fire Country in season two with an option to have a regular role in a possible spin-off series. She will play Mickey, a deputy sheriff for fifteen years who knows every corner of Edgewater... and every one of its residents. This is her town and she is very protective of it.

It's now known that the sheriff-centric episode isn't being considered a backdoor pilot, as the project is still expected to go through a development stage for a possible series order, but its reception will likely be key to the spin-off's chances of to go on.

In addition to Phelan, Rater and Thieriot, executive producers are Tia Napolitano, who also serves as showrunner, and Jerry Bruckheimer and Kristie Anne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television. CBS Studios produces the series.

New episodes of season two currently air on Friday nights at 9pm and can be streamed on Paramount+.
