Game of Thrones and Borgen actor Pilou Asbæk joins the series in a recast as Warlord aka The Mule, taking over the role from Mikael Persbrandt, who was a recurring character in season two.
Asbæk (pictured, second from left) joins (clockwise in photo) Emmy winner Cherry Jones, Leo Bill, Brandon P. Bell, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing, Cody Fern, Synnøve Karlsen and Tómas Lemarquis alongside returning leads Lee Pace and Jared Harris.
They join two previously announced new additions: Oscar winner Troy Kotsur and Alexander Siddig. Foundation (2021) comes from series co-creator/executive producer/showrunner David S. Goyer.
Based on Isaac Asimov's trilogy, the series tells the saga of The Foundation, a group of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it. It follows the stories of four pivotal individuals who transcend space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties, and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.
Season two, which concluded in September 2023, picked up more than a century after the season one finale, building tension across the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within. Hari, Gaal and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to change psychohistory. The Foundation has entered its religious phase, spreading the Church of Seldon across the Outer Reach and instigating the Second Crisis: war with the Empire.
Jones plays Foundation ambassador Quent, Karlsen plays Bayta Mallow, Fern is Toran Mallow, Bell plays Han Pritcher, Lemarquis portrays Magnifico Giganticus, Wong-Loi-Sing is Song and Bill plays Mayor Indbur.
Foundation (2021) is produced by Skydance Television and is directed and produced by Goyer. Bill Bost, Jane Espenson, Leigh Dana Jackson, Roxann Dawson, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell and Robyn Asimov also executive produce.
Jones plays in many films and series. She had regular roles in the Apple TV+ limited series Five Days at Memorial and Defending Jacob and a role in the anthology miniseries Extrapolations, also on Apple TV+.
Bill appeared as Henry Gray in Becoming Elizabeth, Starz's historical drama series about Queen Elizabeth I. He also starred with Tom Hardy in BBC/FX's Taboo (2017) and the BBC historical drama The White Queen.
Bell had a role in the Channel 4 series Traitors and appeared as Troy Fairbanks in Netflix's Dear White People, a role he previously played in the 2014 film version.
The Dutch Wong-Loi-Sing played a role in Prime Video's Modern Love Amsterdam and the Dutch series Santos by BNNVARA.
Fern had a regular role in FX horror anthology series American Horror Story: 1984 and American Horror Story: Apocalypse. He also appeared in the final season of House of Cards (2013).
Karlsen recently had a recurring role on Netflix's Bodies (2023). She previously starred in the Sky Max series The Midwich Cuckoos and the Italian series Medici: Masters of Florence from Rai 1.
Tómas Lemarquis mainly played film roles. He appeared in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga and X-Men: Apocalypse.
