A Snowfall spin-off series is in early development at FX. Gail Bean would play the lead role.

No one wants to comment, but we've heard that, if it comes to fruition, Gail Bean could star as her favorite Snowfall character, Wanda.

The spin-off is a continuation of the original story set in 1990s Los Angeles as South Central moved out of the crack era and into the gangster rap business, with areas heavily gang-ravaged under leadership of the Bloods and Crips. Wanda (Bail, photo below) would serve as the connective tissue between the original series and the spinoff, which is expected to introduce other main characters.

It is still unknown whether other characters from the original may also appear in the new series.

Malcolm Spellman will serve as executive producer and writer on the pilot. Returning executive producers include Dave Andron (co-creator of the original and showrunner of Snowfall), Trevor Engelson through Underground, Michael London through Groundswell, and Tommy Schlamme through Shoe Money, in addition to his executive Julie DeJoie.

Original series co-creators John Singleton (posthumous) and Eric Amadio, and producer Evan Silverberg also receive credits.

After six successful seasons on FX, Snowfall will wrap up on Wednesday, April 19. The series stars Damson Idris (pictured) as Franklin Saint, a young drug lord in 1980s Los Angeles during the height of the crack epidemic.

One of Franklin's closest associates is his old friend Leon (Isaiah John), with whom he works on the street. In the early seasons, Wanda was Leon's girlfriend who became addicted to crack and homeless. Struggling to kick the habit, she survives by doing chores while focusing on staying clean. Wanda and Leon finally get married in Ghana in the third episode of the sixth and final season, currently airing on Wednesday nights.

Also, in the sixth season, a civil war threatens to destroy the Saint family. In desperation, Franklin is forced to rob his Aunt Louie (Angela Lewis) and Uncle Jerome (Amin Joseph) after they are wiped out by former CIA officer Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson). Meanwhile, Louie has taken over Franklin's role as Teddy's sole buyer, undercutting her cousin and creating a competing empire. Franklin now faces the loss of everyone he loves and everything he's built, and to get through it all he'll have to outsmart the KGB, DEA and CIA and the fully militarized, completely corrupt C.R.A.S.H. units of the LAPD.

Snowfall was John Singleton's last project before his death in 2019, which he co-created with Amadio and Andron. The series is executive produced by Singleton, Andron, Schlamme, Amadio, London, Engelson, Leonard Chang, Walter Mosley and Julie DeJoie. Idris also serves as a producer.

Snowfall is produced by FX Productions.
