FX has finally released the first trailer for Shōgun, the original adaptation of James Clavell's bestseller made for television by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks.

The ten-part series is set in Japan in the year 1600, at the beginning of a century-long civil war. Hiroyuki Sanada (Helix) stars as Lord Yoshii Toranaga who fights for his life as his enemies in the Council of Regents unite against him. When a mysterious European ship is found in a nearby fishing village, English pilot, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis, Raised by Wolves (2020)), emerges with secrets that could help Toranaga tilt the balance of power and unravel the formidable influence of Blackthorne's own enemies - to destroy the Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants.

The adventures of Toranaga and Blackthorne become inextricably linked to their translator, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai, Pachinko), a mysterious Christian noblewoman and the last of a disgraced family. As she serves her lord in this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound friendship with Blackthorne with her devotion to the faith that saved her and her duty to her late father.
