Emmy winner Nathan Lane, known for his recurring guest role on Only Murders in the Building, has joined Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is the second season of Ryan Murphy's true crime anthology series Monster for Netflix, which began with Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Lane will play writer and investigative journalist Dominick Dunne, who covered the Menendez brothers' trial for Vanity Fair. Dunne is also known for his coverage of the trial of O.J. Simpson, which was the subject of Murphy's Emmy-winning The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Lane played 'Dream Team' member F. Lee Bailey in that series, making this a return to the true crime anthology genre and a reunion with Murphy.

In Monsters, Lane joins Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch, who play Lyle and Erik, respectively, and Javier Bardem and Chloƫ Sevigny, who play their parents.

In 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered their parents Jose and Kitty in their home near Los Angeles. Although they were not initially considered prime suspects, they were investigated in the following months and they eventually confessed to parricide, while at the same time claiming that their actions stemmed from years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of their father.

Their first of two trials, broadcast on Court TV, gripped the nation, as did O.J.'s trial. Simpson in 1994, and is believed to have played a role in today's fascination with 'true crime'. Prosecutors argued that the pair were in fact out to inherit their father's multimillion-dollar fortune, and the Menendez brothers were sentenced in 1996 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The first season of the anthology, Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, starred Evan Peters as the infamous serial killer. The series debuted in September 2022 and became one of the most popular English-language Netflix series ever. This led to Netflix greenlighting two sequel seasons, the first of which is Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Lane is a three-time Tony winner and eight-time Emmy nominee, which he won for his favorite recurring role on Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. Lane also has a recurring role on HBO's period drama The Gilded Age and recently starred in Dicks: The Musical.
