The Pitt is a real-life examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in contemporary America, seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern hospital in Pittsburgh.
R. Scott Gemmill will serve as showrunner on the series, from John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The project marks a reunion for Wyle, Gemmill and Wells, who all worked together on ER.

The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP has an umbrella deal. Gemmill will write the first episode and executive produce the series alongside Wyle, Wells and JWP's Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.

Wyle is perhaps best known for his role as Dr. John Carter in ER, which Gemmill and Wells executive produced. Wyle also starred in TNT's science fiction series Falling Skies and in TNT's The Librarians (2014) franchise. He is currently executive producer of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the upcoming spin-off of the CW fantasy adventure series.
Gemmill has completed fourteen seasons as writer and executive producer of NCIS: Los Angeles, which concluded its final season in May. He is currently a writer and executive producer of Call Me God, a television adaptation of the Audible series about DC snipers in development at Paramount+.
