Apple TV+ turns the story of the Hollywood con artist into a documentary series.

The streamer will soon launch Hollywood Con Queen, which tells the story of a scam that targeted Kathleen Kennedy, Sherry Lansing, Amy Pascal, Wendi Deng Murdoch and Stacey Snider.

The series comes from Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness and Fyre filmmaker Chris Smith and his production company Library Films.

It tells the story of an international con artist who pretends to be the most powerful women in the industry.

The scammer approached production staff claiming to be an executive or high-ranking industry official to work on a project in Indonesia. In 2020, it emerged that the FBI and the British Ministry of Justice had arrested a suspect in Manchester.

The series is based on the reporting of Scott Johnson, who wrote a book - Hollywood Con Queen: The Hunt for an Evil Genius.

It is the latest project based on the scam. Campside Media launched a hit podcast, Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen in 2020 and has a number of other projects in the works based on the story. Deadline broke the story about the scam in 2018, in a detailed report detailing how victims were scammed out of money, with a caller posing as one of the famous Hollywood women who built relationships with former Navy SEALs and others over the phone, and offered them dream opportunities. They published that story to warn the next potential victims and from then on the story grew like mushrooms.

Hollywood Con Queen can be seen on Apple TV+ from Wednesday, May 8.
