MGM+ has released the first trailer for the exciting new MGM+ thriller series Emperor of Ocean Park starring Forest Whittaker.



In addition, we can announce that the series has been expanded to include NAACP Image Award winner Keith Powers, Kelli Simpkins, Keith Kupferer and Deanna Reed-Foster (from left to right in the photo below).



From executive producers John Wells and Sherman Payne, Emperor of Ocean Park is set in the world of politics, elite academia and the beaches of Martha's Vineyard. It follows Talcott Garland (Grantham Coleman), an esteemed law professor whose quiet life is disrupted when his father, Judge Oliver Garland, dies of an apparent heart attack.

The nature of the judge's death is questioned by Tal's sister, Mariah, a former journalist and inveterate conspiracy theorist, who believes the judge, a failed black Supreme Court nominee, met with foul play.

Emperor of Ocean Park also stars Tiffany Mack and Paulina Lule. Damian Marcano is executive producer and directed the first episode of the series.

Powers plays Lionel “Nasty Nel” Eldridge, an ex-NBA star who is not your typical law student. He is five years older and one meter taller. Lionel is a dedicated student who looks up to Tal for mentorship and advice.

Simpkins will play Dana Worth, a quirky, wisecracking and funny law professor. She is a devoted colleague and friend of Tal and is eager to accompany him when he becomes entangled in a mystery.

Kupferer plays Mallory “Uncle Mal” Corcoran, a well-connected lawyer and power broker who commands respect from politicians and the wealthy. He has been a long-time ally of Oliver Garland and his family.

Reed-Foster is Sally Garland, aka Cousin Sally, a single woman who brings a party wherever she goes. She is an alcoholic with a fixation on the approval of her cousins ​​and struggles with feelings of loneliness and depression.

The series is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with John Wells, Erin Jontow and Shukree Tilghman serving as executive producers alongside Sherman Payne.

Emperor of Ocean Park premieres on Sunday, July 14. New episodes air on Sundays until September 15.

Powers starred in the Netflix miniseries What/If with Reneé Zellweger and was seen in the pilot episode of AMC's Fear The Walking Dead. Kupferer has appeared in NBC's Chicago PD, Showtime's The Chi and Fox's The Big Leap, among others. Reed-Foster has starred in Apple TV+'s Shining Girls, NBC's Chicago Fire and AMC's 61st Street.
