Charlie Hunnam will play the lead role in Ed Brubaker's Prime Video comic film adaptation Criminal.

Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.

He plays the leading role of Leo, a brilliant master thief who sees all angles and specializes in plans without weapons and without violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other criminals think he's a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to prison for murdering the most feared man in town, Teeg Lawless.

Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden have been confirmed to direct the first four episodes. The series is produced by Brubaker and Jordan Harper, alongside Phillips, Sarah Carbiener and Phillip Barnett. Legendary Television is also executive producer. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Hunnam is best known for bringing Jackson "Jax" Teller to life on FX's Sons of Anarchy, a role he played across the biker drama's seven seasons.

He had film roles in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, James Gray's Lost City of Z with Sienna Miller and Robert Pattinson, Michael Noer's Papillon, alongside Rami Malek and Eve Hewson; and Jungleland for Max Winkler.

Hunnam returned two years ago in a series to helm Apple TV+'s Shantaram, which is based on Gregrory David Roberts' bestseller. He was also recently seen in Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon for Netflix.
