Eric Dane stars opposite Jensen Ackles in Countdown, the thriller-drama series on Prime Video from One Chicago veteran Derek Haas.

His casting shouldn't be alarming news for Euphoria fans. According to sources, there are promising signs as work continues on the scripts for season three with creator Sam Levinson. Amid a production delay, HBO cleared the cast to take other acting jobs in March.

If the network moves forward with a third season - which it is still targeting to start production later this year for a 2025 debut - filming will have to be done around the schedule of cast members like Dane (pictured) who have booked new acting jobs . That is seen as a challenge, but it can be done. Since March, Dane has also signed on for the pan-European miniseries Kabul, which is currently in production.

Countdown begins after a suspicious murder in broad daylight leads to LAPD Officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) being recruited to be part of a secret task force of undercover officers from all branches of law enforcement to investigate. But when the truth of a sinister plot is revealed, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.

Dane plays Nathan Blythe, Special Agent in Charge, who has been with the FBI for 22 years. He is military, slim, fit and has an imposing look. He has seen a lot in his work and he is passionate about fighting for justice. While this is not his first task force he has led, this one is different.

He had already investigated a possible deal with a foreign player trying to bribe DHS agents, but was denied when he tried to investigate. After Darden's death, he took matters into his own hands and started bypassing certain people and keeping things on tight lock, including this special forces team. He has carefully selected and selected everyone on the team and does not hesitate to take aim at them. He wants to solve this by any means necessary.

Jessica Camacho has also been cast in the series, playing Special Agent Amber Oliveras. Haas created Countdown and is executive producer and showrunner for the 13-episode series from Amazon MGM Studios.

This marks Dane's return to playing a soldier, which he did as the lead in TNT's drama series The Last Ship. He is probably best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on ABC's long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy. In Euphoria, Dane plays Nate's (Jacob Elordi) father Cal, a role that earned him a supporting actor nomination at the 2022 Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards.

He currently stars opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Sony's Bad Boys: Ride Or Die. Dane can soon be seen in Amazon's motorcycle racing film One Fast Move opposite KJ Apa and in Tony Tost's directorial debut Americana, starring Euphoria co-star Sydney Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser and Halsey, which premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival and was recently sold to Lionsgate.
