George Clooney's remake of the French political drama series Le Bureau des Légendes has officially found its leading man.

Michael Fassbender has now been confirmed to star in the Paramount+ series, now known as The Agency after previously being called The Department. Fassbender will executive produce alongside Clooney and Grant Heslov through Smokehouse Pictures.

The Agency, which received a straight-to-series order from Showtime in 2023, will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime later this year.

The series follows Martian (Fassbender, pictured), a secret CIA agent who has been ordered to give up his undercover life and return to the station in London. When the love he left behind resurfaces, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission collide with his heart, drawing them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

It is produced by 101 Studios and Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

It is based on Le Bureau des Légendes, which was created by Eric Rochant and aired for five seasons on the French network Canal+.

Fassbender recently shot the Steven Soderbergh film Black Bag with Cate Blanchett and stars in Sundance Audience Award winner Kneecap.

Joe Wright directs and produces. Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth will write all ten episodes and produce.

Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz exec produce for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari exec produce for 101 Studios. Alex Berger, Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton also produce.
