HBO's Harry Potter television series is starting to take shape.

Succession duo Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod have signed on as writer and director respectively.

This comes four months after it was revealed that Gardiner was one of three finalists for the award to reimagine the classic franchise for the small screen. Gardiner beat Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan to win the job.

Gardiner (pictured, left), who was a consulting producer on seasons three and four of the Brian Cox-led family drama Succession, will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Mylod (pictured, right), who produced more than a dozen episodes of directed the series, will direct multiple episodes and will also executive produce.

This comes after it was announced that Harry Potter is moving from an HBO Max Original to HBO as part of a rethink of Warner Bros Discovery's strategy. The series is scheduled for 2026.

The series, which is still in development, will be a "faithful" adaptation of the books by J.K. Rowling and will have a new cast.

Harry Potter is produced by Warner Bros Television and Rowling's Brontë Film and TV. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV will executive produce alongside Gardiner and Mylod and David Heyman of Heyday Films, who produced the films.

Before working on Jesse Armstrong's creation Succession, Gardiner served as executive producer of HBO and BBC fantasy co-production His Dark Materials and was co-executive producer of AMC's Killing Eve. She also co-wrote series such as Starz's The Rook and Amazon's The Man in the High Castle.

Mylod's other past directing jobs include Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, Minority Report, Backstrom, Shameless (US) and Entourage.
