It's official: Jason George is coming back to Grey's Anatomy as a series regular.

The Station 19 actor has signed a deal to join the main cast of the ABC medical drama for its upcoming 21st season.

George (pictured) has been starring on Grey's Anatomy as Ben Warren since season six. He was a regular face from season twelve to season fourteen before leaving to help launch spin-off Station 19. For the past seven seasons, George has been a series regular on the firefighter drama while also being a regular guest on the main series, both produced by Shondaland and ABC Signature.

In addition to George, the main cast of Station 19 included another Grey's Anatomy transplant, Stefania Spampinato reprising her role as Carina. For now, there are no plans for her to return to the mothership, but there's always a possibility for her to pop up as a guest actress, something Grey's Anatomy regularly does with former cast members.

George returns to the medical drama as it prepares to say goodbye to two regular characters, Jake Borelli and Midori Francis, who will return in the fall to wrap up the storylines surrounding their characters.

Ben's storyline in season seven on Station 19 had him increasingly using his medical skills as he questioned his future as a firefighter in light of his shoulder injury.

This culminated in the Station 19 finale, with Ben telling Captain Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) that he was going back to finish his surgical internship. In 2017, as a fifth-year intern at Gray Sloan, Ben found a way to explore a dream second career as a firefighter without jeopardizing his chances of returning one day, should he choose.

Of course, Ben has always had a personal connection to Gray Sloan through his marriage to Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), which was revisited with a final crossover in the Grey's Anatomy season 20 finale.

George has been a part of the Shondaland family for over twenty years. In addition to his roles on Grey's Anatomy and Station 19, he was also a leading actor in the 2011 medical drama Off the Map.
