Some casting news from the Doctor Who (2024) panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

It was announced that The Little Mermaid actor Jonah Hauer-King (pictured below, left) will join the next season of Doctor Who (2024) and play a character who is part of Ruby Sunday's story.

In addition, Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan (pictured, right) revealed she is joining the cast of the Doctor Who Christmas special (2024). She plays Joy, "a determined woman whose life changes forever when she meets the Doctor". You can watch her announcement at the bottom of this news story, including a first look at the special.

Couglan currently stars as Penelope Featherington in Netflix's Bridgerton. Her other roles include the lead role of Claire Devlin in the Channel 4/Netflix series Derry Girls and ITV's historical miniseries Harlots starring Samantha Morton and Lesley Manville.

Hauer-King recently starred on the big screen opposite Halle Bailey in 2023's The Little Mermaid. On television, he recently appeared in Peacock's The Tattooist of Auschwitz and played the lead role in BBC series World on Fire.

As we previously reported, the latest Doctor Who (2024) spin-off was announced during the panel. The BBC and Disney+ have ordered The War Between the Land and the Sea, a five-part spin-off series starring Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw alongside existing Doctor Who (2024) actors Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrien.
