Lionsgate is expanding the John Wick universe with John Wick: Under the High Table.

John Wick: Under the High Table is an action series produced by Keanu Reeves (pictured below), the star of the multibillion-dollar film franchise, and Chad Stahelski (pictured below, inset), the director. Stahelski also directs the first episode.

The story in John Wick: Under the High Table, written by The Old Man co-creator Robert Levine, picks up immediately after the conclusion of John Wick: Chapter 4. John Wick has left the world of assassins, and has left the world of the High Table in a shaky position. A collection of new characters will attempt to make a name for themselves, while some of the franchise’s longtime characters remain committed to the old world order.

The description for John Wick: Under the High Table, which promises to “combine new and old, pushing the Wick universe into a new era,” points to a mix of newly created and existing characters, an approach Lionsgate previously used in the John Wick prequel limited series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, one of Peacock’s biggest original launches of 2023.

Stahelski, who signed a deal with Lionsgate in January to oversee the creation of the John Wick franchise in film, television and other media, is an executive producer on John Wick: Under the High Table through his company 87Eleven Entertainment. Levine, who serves as showrunner, is also an executive producer alongside Reeves and Thunder Road’s Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk, who are producers on the films.

At this point, Reeves is attached only as an executive producer and not set for an acting role in the series. He is said to be heavily involved in the project, which is being sold in what is becoming a competitive situation.

In John Wick: Chapter 4 , John and assassin Caine (Donnie Yen) earn their freedom from the High Table and Winston (Ian McShane) is restored to Hotel Manager of the rebuilt New York Continental after John (Reeves) kills the Marquis (Bill Skarsgård) of the High Table but is left seriously injured. The ending remains ambiguous, with John presumed—but not confirmed—dead, with a post-credits scene foreshadowing a confrontation between Caine and Akira (Rina Sawayama), who attacks him with a knife after Caine killed her father, Shimazu Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada), earlier in the film while he spared her.

The extra scene could be a teaser for a John Wick spinoff film about Yen's assassin Caine, which Lionsgate is working on. The studio also has an upcoming spinoff film Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, set between the third and fourth John Wick films.

A fifth John Wick film is also in development, and John Wick: Under the High Table will not interfere with plans for a potential new feature film, sources said. Lionsgate declined to comment.

Levine is co-creator/executive producer of FX's The Old Man and is also co-creator and executive producer of Starz's pirate drama Black Sails.
