Apple TV+ has ordered the 10-part horror-comedy series Widow's Bay from creator and executive producer Katie Dippold.

Emmy Award nominee Hiro Murai (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Bear) will direct the pilot and produce alongside Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski.

Set on a mysterious cursed island in New England, Widow's Bay follows its superstitious residents, led by a mayor who refuses to believe their warnings.

Dippold (pictured left) was a writer at NBC's Parks and Recreation before selling her feature film The Heat, directed by Paul Feig and starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. The Heat won an American Comedy Award for Best Comedy Screenplay and a People's Choice Award for Favorite Comedy Film.

After The Heat, she co-wrote Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, also directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Most recently, Dippold wrote the screenplay for Disney's Haunted Mansion (2023), directed by Justin Simeon and starring Danny DeVito, LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson and Owen Wilson.

Murai (pictured, right) is a filmmaker and director who recently released the Prime Video series Mr. & Mrs. Smith produced and directed, receiving his latest Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his work on the series' premiere episode. Murai and other executive producers were nominated for an Emmy for the series' nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Mr. & Mrs. Smith scored a total of 16 Emmy nominations for the series' first season.

He is an Emmy winner as executive producer of the FX/Hulu hit The Bear in 2023 when the series won Outstanding Comedy Series.

Murai previously worked with Donald Glover as executive producer and director of the Emmy-winning FX series Atlanta. The series earned six Emmys and 19 nominations, including four for Murai's personal directorial work. He was also the director and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated series Station Eleven.
