The Star of David Letterman started to rise in 1978. That is the year that he first appeared on NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’. His own show ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ premiered in 1982. The show earned five Emmy Awards and had twelve seasons. In 1993 he started the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ at CBS and now in season 21 of that show he announced his retirement. He will stop with ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ in 2015. The exact date was not announced.

With the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ Letterman won 12 Emmy’s and he was nominated for 67 Emmy’s. He also won the Peabody Award in 1992.
