This column supports the Series of the Year election 2018 and discusses the category Best binge-watch series. Between Monday January 7th and Monday February 4th you can vote for your favourite series in this genre and others.

The best binge-watch series of 2018, that wasn't an easy task. So many shows have been released and a lot of them were fun, exciting and good. But which one is the best? Down below you can find a selection of the ten best binge-watch series of this year. They've been selected based on the amount of episodes, excitement, story, action and mystery. But most of all, was it easy to watch? If you start with one of the shows listed below, can you actually stop watching? Well, actually, you can't.....

But which one is the best? The choice is up to you!

House of Cards (2013)

After Kevin Spacey was cast out, the writers of House of Cards had to rewrite the script in order to make sure the viewer would hardly notice. If you read the latest review, it does give you the impression that the viewer was slightly let down. Frank is no more and that has quite an impact..... but that doesn't take from the fact that this show keeps you curious, because you'll always wonder why the story happens in that particular way and if there's maybe more to it. House of Cards is definitely suitable for the top 10.

iZombie

A totally different show, a lot lighter and sort of hilarious. I do have the idea they want to join in on the zombie hype (The Walking Dead). They've done pretty well, it's not a great show, but it is quite easy to watch. A good snack, definitely binge-worthy.

Lucifer

Another 'less serious' show, which is also a suitable addition to this list. It's nice to keep watching and it has the necessary amount of humour and fantasy (a man who is also the devil...?). But for Lucifer, the same applies, it is also a nice snack to watch throughout the day.

Ozark

Last year this show was also nominated in this top 10, this year the second season is also part of this list. Maybe this season was even better than the previous one: the story is incredible and there are a lot of surprises. At the end of each episode you were disappointed that it was over, so you quickly started the next one: professional binge-watching.

The 100

The 100 started off quite slowly and the acting wasn't that great either. But damn, this show has developed well over the years. The last season was a spectacle with a lot of action and the required amount of science fiction. Definitely binge-worthy.

The Americans

The last season received a 10 from our critic Mandy, which is a great and deserved grade for this show. Well acted, great stories and you wanted more and more. A deserved place in the top 10.

The Bridge (2011)

I don't think I have to explain a lot about this show, it is one of the better Scandinavian crime shows of the last few years. An amazing plot, exciting moments and well acted. You can't stop watching this, even if you wanted to.....

The Haunting of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House has a bit of a Dutch vibe, Michiel Huisman portrays an interesting character and does this quite well. A great show and also a tad exhilarating, with a few scary moments. Despite the fact that this isn't really my genre, I couldn't stop watching and thus it is suitable for this list.

The Rain

The Rain is a new show and it can be watched on Netflix, it also got a reasonably high grade from our critic on MySeries. This show also includes a group who has to survive after an apocalypse (zombies and apocalypses are all the rage). I like it: the apocalypse concept, a dark and mysterious world and a group of people who depend on each other. It's a perfect recipe for trouble and it usually works quite well. This results in a show that is quite easy to watch, perfect for this list.

Vikings

As of this year, it can also be watched on Ziggo in the Netherlands, which makes it a lot easier to watch. In Vikings we follow Ragnar and his family on their quest for conquest and all the other things that make a viking happy. I watched the last season back to back, the concept never changes but the show remains just as good.
