This column supports the Series of the Year election 2019 and discusses the category Best actor. Between Monday January 6th and Monday February 3th you can vote for your favourite series in this genre and others.
In addition to the new category of best actress, there is also a new category of best actors. Just like the actresses, it was difficult to make a top 5. But I believe I succeeded. The actors in this list come from new, but also from long-running and even ended series. The opinions were also enormously divided. I have made this five based on the the opinion of the writers and votes given by readers of MySeries.
Unfortunately it is not possible to use a wild card for this category. So you'll have to do with these five. If you are going to vote via the app, download the latest version to be able to vote in this category as well.
Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinder, BBC One)
This actor has been playing the role of gang leader Thomas "Tommy" Shelby with conviction for five seasons. The striking actor from Ireland plays in many films and
Peaky Blinders is one of the two series titles that are on his resume. The Way We Live Now from 2001 is the other title. I think Murphy is a very well-deserved nominee and may end up high in this new category.
Jared Harris (Chernobyl, HBO)
This actor is no stranger for the series fan. In addition to his wonderful role in
Chernobyl, the actor has known for many years how to portray a character with conviction. He also played in Carnival Row this year. But also series like The Terror, The Crowns, The Expanse, Mad Men, Fringe and The Riches are on his resume. In
Chernobyl, he portrays Valery Legasov, the Russian scientist who tried to uncover and reveal the truth about the famous disaster.
Jharrel Jerome (When They See Us, Netflix)
The American actor Jharrel Jerome is entirely justifiable in this list. If you have not yet seen
When They See Us, do so. This series and certainly the acting of Jerome can be called excellent. Jerome also played the role of Jerome Robinson in the series Mr. Mercedes. The actor won an Emmy Award for best lead actor for his role as Korey Wise in
When They See Us in 2019. It would not surprise me if he will finish very high in this category.
Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan, Showtime)
This actor was already nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as
Ray Donovan in the series with the same name. He did not win any of these prizes. But there is no denying that Liev Schreiber fits the role as a beautiful hand-tailored suit. In addition to films, he also played in the series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Hitler: The Rise of Evil.
Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, HBO)
And then the final nominee, but certainly not the least. Peter Dinklage, known for his role Tyrion Lannister in
Game of Thrones. The actor has won a Golden Globe and Emmy Award for his part in the fantasy series. Before
Game of Thrones, which is known as his breakthrough series, he played in series such as Nip / Tuck, Threshold and I’m With Her.
Writers pick
Because it is not possible to vote with a wild card in this category, I would like to nominate a candidate of my own choosing.
Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty, BBC One)
If you can keep the viewer glued to the tube for an hour as an actor, you are world-class. In the fifth season of
Line of Duty, Dunbar was brutally accused and mercilessly interrogated for an hour. I think only a few actors can do what he did as well as he did. He deserves to be nominated for that. The actor also played in series such as Blood, Broken, The Life and Adventures of Nick Nickleby, Ashes to Ashes and The Fear.
These were the six nominees selected by the readers, writers and me of MySeries. Good luck voting!
With kind regards,
Mandy
