Series of the year election 2025 - April 2025 poll
Since 2012, Myseries has selected the Series of the Year every year! Our top writers nominate ten series in fifteen categories. But, as always, there's always a category where voters secretly wish they could make their own choice!
The series looks beautiful, colorful, stylized, almost like an art film. But underneath that visual layer is a story that often goes in all directions. The themes are promising (second chances, racial inequality, faith), but are not really developed. The plot remains vague and the mix of styles makes it difficult for the viewer to get a grip on anything.
David Oyelowo plays his role with conviction, and Simone Missick also brings emotional depth. But even strong acting can't hide the fact that the series struggles to stay focused. The balance between atmosphere and content often tips towards the former.
For me, Government Cheese is a missed opportunity. I expected a different kind of story, something more powerful, more layered, or at least clearer. Now it gets stuck in style without enough substance.
