Grantchester - Season 7

Another excellent season from Grantchester focuses on the main characters' private concerns.
Mrs. Chapman has private problems that turn her life upside down. It logically affects her behavior and her environment. Her husband Jack is worried but does not know what is happening. The only one who reaches her is Leonard. He is the one who owes the most to the Chapman family after all the events of the previous season. Pastor Will Davenport is too busy with his love life to notice. In addition, he is still on the road with Inspector Geordie Keating to solve various crimes. The latter is in the middle of processing his impending divorce from his wife. In addition to his work, Geordie is completely absorbed in winning back his great love. The question is whether she is ready for that.

As always, it is the mutual relationships that are central in Grantchester. Each episode has - as always - a completed story when it comes to solving the crime. The common thread is and remains the private lives of the protagonists. In terms of atmosphere, the series is close to other British series such as Call the Midwife and All Creatures Great and Small (2020). It has a sweet and somewhat light-hearted character, but it does deal with various heavy themes. It ensures that the series is pre-eminently one to move the sentences. A nice escape from the delusion of everyday life.

Grantchester also has an excellent cast. The acting is, as befits a British series, excellent. Whether it's the protagonists or the many guests. Furthermore, the imagery fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the series. It gives a romantic picture of the countryside of the fifties and sixties of the last century. That green background full of atmospheric old traditional houses and farms gives the series extra cachet. It helps the viewer to forget the modern bustle of today.

Grantchester happily carries on with what it's been good at for six seasons; bring a wonderfully relaxing story. It should not be forgotten that not everything is as good as it looks. A lot of attention is paid to this without spoiling the airy atmosphere. That is a great art in itself. It ensures that traumatic experiences do not lead to grumpy types or dejected darkness. There are other series for that. Grantchester is of a different order. As written before, this series is about a moment of escape from the present time. Take a nice trip to another time when romance and problems had a different size. At least, if you want to believe a series like Grantchester.
