Netflix shares new castings for second season Heartbreak High

The second season of Heartbreak High is coming to Netflix and viewers will see two new faces in the cast.

The series is a reboot of the Australian teen drama of the same name, which aired for seven seasons and 210 episodes before ending in 1999. The new incarnation of the series follows the teachers and students of Australia's fictional Hartley High. Episodes focus on racial tension, high school romances and other teen topics.

Sam Rechner (pictured) and Kartanya Maynard join cast members Ayesha Madon, Chloe Hayden, Thomas Weatherall, James Majoos, Asher Yasbincek, Will McDonald, Gemma Chua-Tran, Sherry-Lee Watson, Bryn Chapman Parish, Josh Heuston, Brodie Townsend, Chika Ikogwe and Rachel House in the comedy-drama series.

Heartbreak High was renewed for a second season a month after its premiere in September 2022. Netflix revealed more about the series in the press release below:

"Oi, they're back! A new era of Heartbreak High begins, with production on the second season in full swing and two new cast members enrolling at Hartley High.

The new faces are Sam Rechner and Kartanya Maynard. Rechner plays Rowan Callaghan, an unassuming country boy with a dry wit and a passion for classic movies who is thrown headfirst into the chaos of Hartley High and a truly epic love triangle, and Maynard is Zoe Clarke, a headstrong celibacy advocate who, along with her gang of Puritans, threatens to bring down the SLT class from within.

Sam Rechner had a breakout role in Steven Spielberg's biographical feature film The Fabelmans and starred opposite Jane Seymour and Jacqueline McKenzie in Ruby's Choice. Kartanya Maynard is a Trawlwoolway woman from Nipaluna/Hobart in Utruwita/Tasmania and has starred in the television series Deadloch and The Messenger, among others.

Returning cast members in Heartbreak High include Logie 2023 nominees Ayesha Madon, Chloe Hayden and Thomas Weatherall, as well as James Majoos, Asher Yasbincek, Will McDonald, Gemma Chua-Tran, Sherry-Lee Watson, Bryn Chapman Parish, Josh Heuston, Brodie Townsend, Chika Ikogwe and Rachel House.

The flies are buzzing, the ibises are raiding the garbage cans and the sun is shining on our favorite 'lowest ranked school in the district' - Hartley High - in the upcoming season. Students pour through the gates and all our heroes are back for a second semester - threesomes, chlamydia and burning cars are a distant memory - it seems everyone has grown up a bit over the semester one holiday...

Season two of Heartbreak High, produced by Fremantle Australia and NewBe, began filming in Sydney (Gadigal, Dharug, Dharawal and Ku-ring-gai land), Australia in June, with all the SLT favorites returning after a tumultuous start to the school year.

The first season garnered a passionate global following for its honest portrayal of what teens are going through today: from first love, sex, trauma, breakups, to inclusivity, sexuality, neurodiversity, and the besties (or frenemies) that get them through it all. to tow.

Heartbreak High season two is coming in 2024. Watch a teaser below showing the new faces joining the cast.
