Canceled Starz wrestling drama series Heels is headed to Netflix

Heels, starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, has landed at Netflix after Starz canceled the series in 2023.

Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group have entered into a licensing agreement for two seasons of Mike O'Malley's critically acclaimed drama.

There is an option for a third season, but that all depends on the availability of actors. Amell will star in the Suits spin-off Suits: L.A. and Alexander Ludwig will star in the science fiction series Earth Abides for MGM+. A Lionsgate spokesperson had no comment.

Heels

Heels centers on the men and women chasing their dreams in the small-town world of pro wrestling. Set in a tight-knit community in Georgia, the series follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals (Amell and Ludwig) battle for their late father's legacy. In the ring, someone has to play the 'good guy' and someone has to play the 'nemesis', the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

The series also stars Allen Maldonado as Rooster Robbins, Alison Luff as Stacy Spade, Chris Bauer as Wild Bill Hancock, Kelli Berglund as Crystal Tyler, Mary McCormack as Willie Day, Robby Ramos as Diego Cottonmouth, Trey Tucker as Bobby Pin, Roxton Garcia as Thomas Spade and James Harrison as Apocalypse. Guest stars include AJ Mendez as Elle Dorado and Phil Brooks, aka CM Punk, as Ricky Rabies.

O'Malley is the showrunner and writer and also stars as Charlie Gully. Michael Waldron created the series. Heels is produced by O'Malley and Waldron along with Julie Yorn, Rick Yorn, Pete Segal, Patrick Walmsley and Christopher Donnelly.
