Vampire series Heirs of the Night, which was produced in the Netherlands - and includes Anna Drijver and Monic Hendrickx - has piqued the interest of Amazon Prime. The first season consists of thirteen episodes. It is a co-production with NDR (Germany) and NRK (Norway). Production on season two has already started. "And we're secretly thinking of a third and fourth season," said creator Diederik van Rooijen. "Thanks to the budget - around 11 to 12 million euros - the series is really epic in scale."
Heirs of the Night was set up by the Dutch producer Lemming Film. Discussions are currently taking place with Amazon Prime Video, which may also be showing the series and can co-finance the coming seasons. All actors (including the Dutch Sallie Harmsen and Benja Bruijning) speak English in the series. The scenario, based on the book Die Erben der Nacht by Ulrike Schweikert, follows five vampire clans that are threatened with extinction in Europe in 1889. To survive, the children of the clans are brought together at a vampire school to join forces.
According to Van Rooijen, Heirs of the Night is also suitable for families with children over the age of 10. "Don't just think about horror. This is also an adventure story just like Indiana Jones and Harry Potter."
