Steve Howey joins High Potential season two cast

The cast of High Potential, the hit ABC crime drama series, is expanding with the addition of Steve Howey (known from Shameless (US)).
Steve Howey has been added as a new series regular for the upcoming second season of High Potential, while lead actress Kaitlin Olson has been promoted from producer to executive producer. One of the biggest hits of the 2024-2025 season, High Potential follows Morgan (Olson), a single mother with an exceptional talent for solving crimes. Her unconventional approach to crime leads to a unique partnership with strict LAPD Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata).

Howey (pictured) plays Jesse Wagner, the agency’s new captain. Wagner is a charismatic, politically astute man who knows exactly how to present himself (with expensive suits and a disarming smile). He’s a master of organizing fundraisers, but he also has a disruptive mindset and, like Morgan, likes to color outside the lines. He likes to get right into the action — whether others want him to or not.

Created by Drew Goddard and based on the French series HPI, High Potential was the top-rated program on U.S. networks in adults 18-49 in the 2024-2025 season and tied for second in total viewers.

High Potential returns this fall, again on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC (and the following day on Hulu). Described as a “light procedural,” Howey’s comedy experience will be a good fit for the other cast members, including Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Reyes (Scrubs).

Steve Howey is best known for his role as Kevin Ball in Shameless (US), but was previously seen in Reba and recently led the CBS action series True Lies, which was produced by James Cameron and McG.
